“According to data provided by the General Directorate of Justice Policy (DGPJ) to the National Statistics Institute (INE), in the 1st quarter of 2024, the number of company incorporations (423) with headquarters in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was higher to the number of dissolutions (177), resulting in a positive balance of 246 companies”.
This is the conclusion of the data released today by the Madeira Regional Statistics Directorate (DREM), which highlights that, compared to the same period last year, there were five more constitutions and 11 fewer dissolutions, with the balance in the 1st quarter of 2023 been +230.
Disaggregating the data according to the companies’ Economic Activity, it can be seen that the achievement of a positive overall balance in the 1st quarter of this year was essentially contributed by “Accommodation, restaurants and similar” (+50), “ Construction” (+35), “Transport and storage” (+34), “Real estate activities” (+32), “Administrative and support services activities” (+25) and “Consultancy, scientific activities , techniques and similar” (+22).
“Conversely, the only activity with a negative balance was “Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles” (-4)”, highlights DREM.
By municipalities, in the period in question, the number of constitutions was higher than the number of dissolutions in all municipalities in RAM, with Funchal leading the podium (273 constitutions against 137 dissolutions), followed by Câmara de Lobos (38 against 6 ), Santa Cruz (38 against 11), Machico (16 against 5), Ribeira Brava (14 against 6), Ponta do Sol (8 against 1), São Vicente (8 against 1), Calheta (10 against 4), Porto Moniz (6 against 1), Porto Santo (7 against 3) and, finally, Santana (5 against 2).
Finally, it should be noted that in the first three months of the year the ratio between constitutions and dissolutions in RAM was 2.39, lower than the value observed for the country (3.19).
