The Intermunicipal Community (CIM) Viseu Dão Lafões and the Chamber of Castro Daire will restore a historic building in the center of the town and transform it into a coworking center (shared work spaces). The project was already delivered this Monday (April 29) and deserves an investment of more than 115 thousand euros.

The building is next to Solar dos Mendonça, built in the 18th century and immortalized by the writer Camilo Castelo Branco in the novel “Amor de Perdição”, and will now be requalified in an investment supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).

According to CIM Viseu Dão Lafões, the objective of the work is to create in Castro Daire “a coworking space, which will provide the most modern equipment and technological conditions necessary for businesspeople, entrepreneurs, startups and all workers who choose to telework in this territory ”.

The value of the project is around 115,605 euros, plus VAT, and the expected execution period is six months. This is the second building recovery project promoted this year by CIM. In Vila Nova de Paiva, a former primary school it is also being transformed into a coworking space.

The president of the Chamber of Castro Daire, Paulo Almeida, hopes that the project “will contribute to developing the entire region”. “This is a very important moment for the municipality of Castro Daire, as we have defined a set of development policies and one of them involves increasing the attractiveness and competitiveness of our territory, at the same time that we stimulate entrepreneurship in our populations”, said the mayor.

The president of CIM, Fernando Ruas, believes that the work “will boost the development and cohesion of our entire territory”. The executive secretary of the intermunicipal community, Nuno Martinho, says that this investment “assumes a strategic importance that goes far beyond the financial value that each of these projects represents”.

“It is these proximity initiatives that allow us to retain and attract population, while at the same time creating conditions for all those who wish to invest and develop their economic activity from our territory”, he concludes.
