Labor Day with gatherings in Lamego and Mangualde

May 1st will be celebrated this Wednesday in Lamego and Mangualde with gatherings organized by the União de Sindicatos de Viseu, linked to the CGTP.

In the municipality of Lamego, there will be a gathering on Avenida Alfredo de Sousa at 2:30 pm. A similar initiative will also take place in Mangualde, at the same time, at Largo Dr. Couto. In both initiatives, songs relating to April 25th will also be played.

Also in Viseu, a march will take place from 2:30 pm that will cover the area between Santa Cristina and Rossio, where at 3:00 pm songs from April will begin to be played.

The celebrations are organized by the União de Sindicatos de Viseu, linked to the CGTP, which will organize demonstrations and concentrations across the country.

The union center guarantees that, on the holiday, it will continue to defend a “general and significant” increase in wages by 15% and a minimum wage of 1,000 euros this year. UGT will organize its “Workers’ Party” in Vila Real.

May 1st only became a national holiday in Portugal after April 25th, 1974, but it has always been marked since it began to be celebrated around the world in 1890.
