Since April 29, 2021, Marco de Canaveses City Council has had a specialized structure in the area of domestic violence, VIVO – Victim Support Office.
This structure is aimed at victims (children, young people, adults and the elderly) whether or not they live in the municipality of Marco de Canaveses.
According to the municipality, the VIVO Cabinet provides, free of charge and confidentially, psychological support, social support and legal support.
To date, the VIVO Office has registered 183 cases initiated, which led to 687 consultations (368 in-person and 319 non-face-to-face).
According to a note from the municipality, the volume of cases has been increasing: 22 in 2021 (from April to December); 66 in 2022; 81 in 2023; 14 in 2024 (so far).
“VIVO’s actions transcend the physical service space, promoting awareness-raising actions, namely in partnership with the Intermunicipal Community of Tâmega e Sousa (CIM-TS), Amarante GNR Detachment, Social Security, Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People and with the Public Ministry”was mentioned.
This school year, 510 Marcoense students in the 9th and 10th years of school have already participated in awareness-raising activities on the issue of violence in dating and friendship relationships.
