“I try to continue the work already carried out and in progress”, says the new director of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (FEUC). José Manuel Mendes took office this Tuesday, April 30, after being unanimously elected by the Faculty Assembly.

The increase in the qualifications of the teaching staff, the restructuring of the teaching offer and the beginning of the international certification of degrees in Economics and Management were some of the goals listed for the 2024-2026 biennium.

FEUC’s biggest challenge will be the “major” works in the building, starting with the library. “It is essential to ensure the creation of temporary and appropriate solutions during the requalification process”, declares José Manuel Mendes. The construction of facilities “for advanced training and services, on land adjacent to FEUC,” is also coming soon.

“The UC Faculty of Economics, being in a prime space in the city, is limited in its expansion capacity”, warns the director, who asks the rectory to reflect on the future of FEUC, with a view to “sustained growth”. “We will have to be imaginative, think about new spaces and study new partnerships in terms of financing possibilities”, concludes José Manuel Mendes.
