Even so, the accounts show that, in the last calendar year, there was a positive net result in the amount of 4.3 million euros, 1.2 million more compared to the value calculated in 2022. On the other hand, the municipality’s liabilities, in 2023, it was reduced by 1.7%”, explains a municipal source. The accounts were approved in the municipal bodies by the socialist majority and the PSD abstained.
The 2023 report speaks of “a large volume of investments in public works and improvements to municipal infrastructure”. Capital expenditure reached 11.2 million euros, of which 9.2 million were allocated to the implementation of the Multi-Year Investment Plan, “namely in water and sanitation works, road infrastructure and sports and leisure equipment”.
These results, in the opinion of the socialist majority that governs the Chamber, “demonstrate a solid financial position of the Municipality with a high degree of financial autonomy, with low levels of debt and fast payment deadlines to suppliers”, considers Nuno Pinto, councilor responsible for municipal administration and finances.
Transfers to parish councils increased by 38.3%, in addition to the 1.1 million euros in Proximity Works carried out in collaboration with the presidents of parish councils. Transfers to non-profit institutions “also showed significant growth”, with an increase of 688 thousand euros, 62.1% more compared to the previous year. The increases are largely justified by the transfer of powers and the signing of inter-administrative contracts.
“We managed to maintain a positive trajectory, optimizing resources, which allowed us to reinforce investment in infrastructure, modernize public services and actively support initiatives that contribute to improving the quality of life in Marco de Canaveses”, concludes Nuno Pinto.
