A Poem Orchestra will continue to develop its activity in Mangualde after signing the renewal of the protocol between the City Council, the School Group and Proviseu – Azeredo Perdigão Music Conservatory.
This agreement guarantees that the Municipality of Mangualde will continue to assume the responsibility for training musicians.
The Poema Orchestra began in 2013 in Mangualde, then integrating students who attended articulated music education, and members of philharmonic bands from the municipality of Mangualde, a project that would eventually be extended to neighboring municipalities.
It currently has around a hundred musicians, with chamber music groups, big band, string orchestra, symphonic band, classical orchestra and symphonic orchestra.
A diversity that is also reflected in the repertoire, as it interprets music that ranges from the 17th century to the present day, in styles that range from classical music to jazz, rock and world music.
“This is a project that we really believe in, which has been proven for a decade, which grows from year to year and which contributes to the education and culture of our students”, considers the mayor of Mangualde, March Almeida.
The mayor also announced that the Chamber will move forward with the rehabilitation and expansion works of the space adjacent to the Casa da Música e da Cultura, which hosts the orchestra’s classes and rehearsals, “in order to guarantee students better rehearsal conditions”.
To mark a decade of existence, Orquestra Poema released its first album at the beginning of this year.
