Labor Day is celebrated this Wednesday, May 1st, across the country with the CGTP and UGT trade unions promoting demonstrations and initiatives to value workers. Beja marks the date by demanding better salaries and pensions.
Maria da Fé Carvalho, coordinator of the Union of Trade Unions of the District of Beja (USDB), highlights that, this year, the anniversary is of special importance, because the 50th anniversary of the celebration of the first free Workers’ Day is being celebrated.
This May 1st, the union reaffirms the achievements of April 25th and fights to increase pensions and combat inequality in the distribution of wealth.
In Beja, the day is marked by a parade starting at 10:00 am, between the Casa da Cultura and the Jardim Público. This will be followed by union interventions and a cultural and sports program with musical entertainment.
The celebrations organized by the Union of Trade Unions of the District of Beja, which affects the CGTP-IN, also include initiatives in the Roxo Dams, in Ervidel and Enxoé, in Pias, as explained by Maria da Fé Carvalho.
