Beja: CDU elected officials voted blank proposals for awarding Medals of Merit

This year, four Medals of Municipal Merit will be awarded in Beja. The proposed names were approved in the Municipal Assembly (AM). CDU elected officials in the Beja Chamber and AM speak of a process “marred by lack of dialogue”.

Of the four medals, one for Social Merit will be awarded to Father Henrique, one for Cultural Merit to Francisco Torrão and two medals for Economic Merit will be awarded to EDIA and João Lopes Baptista.

This year’s Municipal Merit medals will be awarded on May 9th, Ascension Thursday and Beja’s municipal holiday.

Those elected from the CDU in the Chamber of Beja and in the Municipal Assembly came, in a statement, to state that “the process of presenting proposals from personalities and entities to be approved, was marred by a lack of dialogue and a considered stance that the process required, from the part of the executive of the Municipal Council of Beja”.

The communists recall that “last year, of the six names proposed and approved at a Chamber meeting, three were rejected in a vote at the Municipal Assembly”. A situation that for the CDU “exposed in an absolutely unseemly way the good name of the rejected personalities and institutions”.

“To avoid causing this type of embarrassment to some people or entities, the CDU councilors in the Chamber decided, this year, not to present any personality or institution, refraining from participating in the process”, reads the statement.

He also adds that “on the other hand, those elected from the CDU in the Municipal Assembly decided to vote in blank on the proposals presented, as they considered that, without the names indicated being at stake, in one sense or another, the result ends up not dignifying as it should , neither the bodies that deliberate nor the personalities or institutions awarded”.
