The Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs will be present on Wednesday at the San Marino Grand Prix, in Italy, in a ceremony that marks exactly thirty years since the death of Brazilian Ayrton Senna, one of the greatest drivers in the history of Formula 1.

In a statement, the Brazilian Government detailed that “the Austrian pilot Roland Ratzenberger, victim of a fatal car accident that occurred the day before the Brazilian idol, will also be honored on the occasion.”

“Minister Mauro Vieira and the Chancellor of Austria, Alexander Schallenberg, will be received at the Autódromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari by the Chancellor of Italy, Antonio Tajani, and the mayor of the Italian city, Marco Panieri. The ceremony will include a minute of silence and floral placement at Curva Tamburello, the section of the race track where the accident involving Ayrton Senna occurred”, added the Brazilian authorities.

Brazilian Ayrton Senna will be remembered in a ceremony that will begin at 2:47 pm (12:47 pm in Lisbon), the time of his accident, at the Tamburello curve of the track where the São Paulo legend lost his life.

Senna, triple world champion (1988, 1990 and 1991), with 41 victories, 65 pole positions and 80 podiums in the premier class, died at the age of 34 at the Autódromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, during the tragic San Marino Grand Prix.

During free practice, his compatriot Rubens Barrichello had suffered a brutal accident – with no major physical consequences at the “Variante Bassa” chicane – and on Saturday, during qualifying, the Austrian Roland Ratzenberger, who was competing in his first season as a racing driver, F1, he had also lost his life after hitting the wall of the Villeneuve curve at more than 330 km/hour.

On one of the saddest weekends in F1 history, the legendary Senna crashed into the wall, at a speed estimated at 220 kilometers per hour, when he lost control of his Williams at the Tamburello curve. Suffering serious head injuries, Ayrton was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Bologna, where his death was confirmed, probably shortly after the impact and caused by the fact that his helmet had been punctured by damage to the car’s front suspension.

The car’s right front wheel, which came off, also hit the Brazilian star’s head.

The Brazilian’s remains are in the Morumbi cemetery, in São Paulo.

The Imola circuit, where it will be remembered on Wednesday, will host the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, sixth stage of the F1 World Championship, on May 19th. A competition that resumes this weekend in Miami (USA), stage of the fifth round of the year.
