Mariana Silva and Vítor Rodrigues, CDU candidates for the European Parliament elections, were part of a CDU delegation that met with the presidents of the parish council of Barqueiros, Cristelo and Paradela, in the municipality of Barcelos.

A statement reads that “this meeting is the result of the monitoring that the CDU has dedicated to the complaints and concerns expressed by the populations of the territories surrounding the Paradela landfill area, namely the strong odors that affect the quality of life of residents” .

The candidates recall that Resulima, a company majority-owned by the Mota-Engil Group that operates the landfill, opened a public tender for a 2.1 million intervention aimed at mitigating odor emissions, “constituting an issue that the CDU will continue to monitor ”.

Another matter highlighted by the board presidents was the need to guarantee direct access roads to the landfill, considering the daily volume of trucks and tankers that daily travel along roads in residential areas with a strong impact on road traffic and the level of noise production.

The CDU says in the text sent to the editorial staff that “it will continue to monitor this matter and intervene at local level, in the Assembly of the Republic and in the European Parliament, in solidarity with the populations, not allowing the quality of life in the territories neighboring the Landfill to Paradela continues to be harmed.”
