The Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI) assured this Saturday that all elements of the Republican National Guard and the Public Security Police “have an increase in pay” and that no guard or police officer will have less income.

“The misinformation suggesting that some professionals could lose income is false”, reads a statement from MAI, which states that “the Government’s proposal guarantees that all guards and police officers have an increase in pay, guaranteeing at least 1,050 more euros per year, and for some of them, more than that”.

This gain, adds the Ministry of Internal Administration, supervised by Margarida Blasco, “applies to everyone, including new professionals who enter their careers in the future”, and guards and police maintain “all other supplements that they already received , which are 14 in GNR and 11 in PSP”.

The Government’s communication comes just hours after the PSP and GNR platform of unions and associations considered the proposal for the new mission supplement “unacceptable and vexatious”, warning that it reduces income in some cases, and will therefore present a counter-proposal .

The PSP and GNR Unions and Associations Platform regrets MAI’s first proposal, which it says reveals a “huge lack of respect for the dignity of GNR and PSP professionals, a gesture that has already been committed”, it says in a statement.

Expressing “surprise, astonishment and indignation at the proposal” presented by the Ministry of Internal Administration at the meeting on May 2, in which minister Margarida Blasco proposed a mission supplement for elements of the PSP and GNR between 365.13 and 625.94 euros, which will replace the current supplement for service and risk in the security forces, the platform indicates that it will present a counter-proposal.

In the response, the Government writes that the objective of the initial proposal presented to the security forces on Thursday is “to correct the inequity created by the previous Government in relation to the Judiciary Police”.

The Government’s initial proposal “grants the GNR and PSP forces an increase equivalent, on average, to one more salary, that is, in practice it corresponds, on average, to the creation of a 15th month (generating an increase of 7% of the security forces’ salary bill)”, concludes the statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the numbers released by the platform, the Government’s proposal for the new GNR mission supplement implies a salary loss of 517.30 euros for the general commander, with the biggest career increase being 227.70 euros for an ensign, and a loss of 517 euros in the Police director’s salary, while the biggest career increase does not exceed 196 euros.

The proposal, concludes the executive, “follows the same rationale of criteria as the PJ supplement, which is to set the supplement in percentages by reference to the salary of the institution’s top manager”, so “the Government’s proposal for the PSP and GNR was fix the supplement in similar percentages, which vary according to the careers, in relation to the top managers of the respective security forces”.

The current supplement for service and risk in the security forces that PSP and GNR members receive has a variable component that corresponds to 20% of the base salary and a fixed component of 100 euros.
