Portugal is the country that receives the most remittances from immigrants in Cape Verde

-

AImmigrant remittances in foreign currency correspond to the money sent from Cape Verde abroad by those who moved to the islands.

In 2023, immigrant remittances amounted to 2.6 billion escudos (23.5 million euros) and 42% of this value had Portugal as the destination country.

The other two countries are far behind: the United States with 7.4% and Senegal with around 7%.

The money sent abroad originates mainly in the municipality of Praia, followed by Sal and São Vicente.

In the last nine years, the total remittances of immigrants in Cape Verde abroad reached a peak in 2017, with three billion escudos (27.5 million euros).

The 2023 value is below that maximum, but represents more than double what was sent outside the archipelago in 2015, which was just over one billion escudos (nine million euros).
