The Special Police Unit carries out around ten missions a day, revealed this Tuesday the Unit’s commander, Luís Carrilho, appointed as the new National Director of the PSP.

With 3533 actions “the year 2023 was full of challenges”, he said when highlighting the unit’s action at World Youth Day and the Arraiolos Meeting.

Upon being called to new roles at the PSP, Luís Carrilho addressed the unit’s agents at the 16th anniversary ceremony, marked this Tuesday. “My recent appointment to the position of national director of the PSP, which greatly honors me, obliges me as your commander to give you a word of thanks for the loyal and committed way in which you carried out your mission”, he said.

He also highlighted the role of José Barros Correia: “I would like to thank the outgoing national director for the trust he placed in me by appointing me as commander of this unit. I thank him for all his commitment and dedication in the role of national director, but also for the humanism he gave us he brought”.

Luís Carrilho pointed out to the Government “the total commitment and sense of serving the public cause in this and in all the functions that were entrusted, guaranteeing that all police officers who serve in this institution with almost 157 years of history will continue to contribute to a safer Portugal and peaceful world-wide”.
