Minister of Justice cancels negotiation meeting on Wednesday with prison guards – Politics

On Monday, the Minister of Justice canceled the meeting with prison guard unions scheduled for Wednesday to present counterproposals for the creation of a mission supplement, with no new date scheduled yet.

The notice of cancellation of the meeting was communicated today by the National Union of the Prison Guard Corps (SNCGP) to its members, in a letter to which Lusa had access, which states that the meeting on the 8th will be rescheduled and remains scheduled at meeting on the 16th, pre-scheduled at last week’s meeting between the Minister of Justice Rita Alarcão Júdice and the union representatives of prison guards last week.

“At this moment, the cancellation of the meeting is worrying because we started a negotiation round where we were going to create a salary increase for the prison guard staff through the mission supplement and the minister canceled the meeting without informing the date”, the SNCGP leader told Lusa Frederico Morais.

At last week’s meeting, a meeting had been scheduled for Wednesday in the late afternoon, so that the three unions representing the class – SNCGP, Union Association of Heads of the Prison Guard Corps, and Independent Union of the Prison Guard Corps – could present their counter-proposal for the creation of a risk supplement, after having classified the guardianship’s proposal as “humiliating” for the guards, even representing lost wages.

On Friday, minister Rita Alarcão Júdice presented to these unions the same proposal that had already been made to the GNR and PSP unions by the Ministry of Internal Administration on Thursday, and which provides for a 12% supplement for commissioners, of 9% for managers and 7% for guards.

“As the minister said, it is urgent and urgent to resolve the problem of the prison guard body and the prison guard body does not have time to wait to resolve the problems. We would appreciate it if the minister would schedule the meeting as soon as possible to discuss matters serious issues that involve the lives of people who are concerned about the prison system and the security of Portuguese prisons”, said Frederico Morais.
