Building III of Itecons – Institute for Research and Technological Development for Construction, Energy, Environment and Sustainability – was inaugurated this Thursday, the 9th. The new space, which reinforces the institute’s applied research and training capabilities, was presented in a ceremony with interventions by the Rector of the University of Coimbra, Amílcar Falcão, the President of the Center’s Regional Coordination and Development Commission, Isabel Damasceno, and by the President of the Board of Itecons, António Tadeu.

With an area of ​​3600 m2, Building III represents a significant investment in the modernization of Itecons’ infrastructure, allowing it to improve its research capabilities. The new space houses advanced facilities, such as large climatic chambers, acoustic chambers and state-of-the-art equipment for physical, static and dynamic tests, chemical and microstructural analyses.

Established in 2006, from the Construction group of the Department of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra, Itecons is a non-profit association, classified as a public utility institution, which functions as a dynamic interface of knowledge between the scientific community and industry, providing applied research, testing, consultancy and training services in the fields of construction, energy, environment and sustainability. And its mission is to establish a close and agile collaboration between the University of Coimbra and society, companies and other bodies in the construction, energy, environment and sustainability sectors.
