Several times included in the program in previous editions, Tiago Iúri returns this year to compete at the Leiria Film Fest, this time in the animation category, with The First. “An experience” to “leave the comfort zone” and gain “maturity”, he tells JORNAL DE LEIRIA. “To challenge myself”, he explains. “It ends up being a film that helps me walk.”
The short, which premieres nationally next Saturday, May 11, has as its starting point a scenario of the extinction of human life and the presence of another form of life, in line with the director’s previous works developed in the aesthetics of the universe sci fi it’s fantastic.
With five films shown within the Leiria contingent since 2018, and also the documentary Longingalongside Sandra Duarte Cardoso, who entered the official selection in the documentary category in 2021, Tiago Iúri, who lives in Leiria, is one of the authors with the highest number of participations in the Leiria Film Fest and in this 11th edition, which started yesterday and continues until Sunday, May 12th, he is the only director in the region in the competitive aspect, only accompanied by the duo Pedro Caldeira and Paulo Graça, from Tomar, also a regular presence, who compete with Warm waterscheduled for screening on Saturday afternoon.
