Drugs were seized during a police operation to combat drug trafficking by air

First a prosecutor, then a deputy and now a diplomat. The Judiciary Police announced, this Friday, that they detained a 64-year-old citizen with a diplomatic passport at Humberto Delgado Airport, in Lisbon, with around 140,000 individual doses of cocaine.

“The seized drug was transported to Lisbon, from an African country, packed in blocks inside a hand luggage. The suitcase was transported by a citizen with a diplomatic passport, who tried to introduce the seized drug into national territory”, reads the note.

The drug was seized during a police operation to combat drug trafficking by air, as part of “the ongoing effort that the Judiciary Police has been developing, in cooperation with other national authorities, namely the Tax and Customs Authority, and with the authorities from other countries, in order to prevent the introduction of illicit drugs into national territory and also into the European space”.

The detainee was remanded in pre-trial detention.
