“Rabo de Peixe”, a new Portuguese series on Netflix, premieres in May. See the first images and read the synopsis

Netflix released the first images of Fish tailthe second series of the streaming service in Portugal. Produced by Ukbar Filmes, created and written by Augusto Fraga and directed by Augusto Fraga and Patricia Sequeira, Netflix also revealed that the series, filmed in Azores, arrives in May.

Inspired (very loosely) by a real event, Fish tail tells the fictional story of four friends who see their lives change with the arrival of a ton of cocaine on the coast of the small Azorean village Rabo de Peixe. The series is a thriller with touches of sarcastic humor and a story based on hope, dreams, friendship, love and the sea that promises to conquer and enrapture the Portuguese public.

“Nothing happens in the small Azorean town of Rabo de Peixe, until a ton of cocaine reaches the coast, completely changing the lives of its inhabitants. Eduardo, a young fisherman, and his best friends improvise a business with what arrives from the Atlantic Ocean. But a ton of cocaine does not go unnoticed and our protagonists will face the drug owners, the police and a series of unpredictable characters in a dangerous adventure with no return.”

Synopsis of the film

This production has as protagonists the actors José Condessa, Helena Caldeira, Rodrigo Tomás, André Leitão and Kelly Bailey, with the participation of Maria João Bastos, Pepê Rapazote, Albano Jerónimo, Afonso Pimentel and Salvador Martinha.

“It is an enormous pride to be able to show the Azores to the world, telling an incredible story in one of the most special places on the planet. This is a series of pure entertainment and adrenaline, but at the same time, a reflection on the fortune and fatality of the human condition. Being an Azorean myself, I am very happy to bring this adventure to Netflix screens”, says Augusto Fraga (read interview), creator and director of Rabo de Peixe.

Fish tail was one of the ten winning projects in the competition for screenwriters promoted by Netflix in partnership with the Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual (ICA). Launched in 2020, the main objective of the contest was to boost Portuguese audiovisual production.
