The actor Martin Freeman once again spoke out about the criticism received for the relationship between his and his characters. Jenna Ortega in the movie ‘Miller’s Girl’an erotic thriller released in 2024. In the plot, the two experience a relationship between a mature teacher and his 18-year-old student, acting out sex scenes that yield negative reactions audience due to the age difference between them: 30 years.
In an interview with the British newspaper The Timesthe actor argued that the character of ‘Wandinha’ star it is “adult and nuanced”. Freeman also argued that although director Jade Bartlett’s film portrays a controversial case, it does not mean he condones the behavior.
“It’s not about saying, ‘Isn’t this great?’” said Martin Freeman. At the same time, he called it “a shame” how stories about difficult topics can often be contaminated by public opinion.
Freeman further argued that actors take on film roles without endorsing the subject, citing the film ‘Schindler’s List’from 1993. “Are we going to attack Liam Neeson for participating in a film about the Holocaust?”, he asked.
