To make everything more confusing, the director stated that the second season will be canonical

Peacemaker was one of the main works of james gunn at DC before the director became president of DC Studios and responsible for reformulating the universe of adaptations based on the publisher’s works. Now, talking about the series, he explained that the first season will not be part of the DCU canon – but the second season will be.

At the Threads, Gunn confirmed that the new season of Peacemaker will begin development in the middle of the year. Then the director added answers to the questions he expected to receive, saying that “yes, we will record Superman & Peacemaker simultaneously; yes, I wrote all the episodes; but no, in order to launch the series I will not be able to direct all the episodes (just some)”.

This led to other questions from fans. One of them asked if the two seasons of Peacemaker take place after Superman, given that the film marks the beginning of the DCU, to which Gunn responded “The first season is not canon, but no”. In another comment, the director wrote: “Answering again to leave no doubt: The second season of Peacemaker takes place after the events of Superman”.

James Gunn confirmed that the first season of Peacemaker will not be canon in the DCU.

Thus, according to what is explained by the director, the second season of the series will show events that occurred after the Superman film, and will be part of the history of the DCU. The first, however, will not be considered canonical, although some events and characters will be maintained.

Currently, the second season of Peacemaker does not have a release date.
