An enemy of most ‘Harry Potter’ fans due to her strong statements, Miriam Margolyes was the protagonist of controversies involving the multimillion-dollar Hogwarts universe not long ago. Now, at 82 years old, the actress who played Professor Sprout in the franchise surprises pop culture fans by revealing that she refused to participate in a Marvel project, which had a fee valued at no less than three million reais.
Margolyes generated a huge commotion online a few weeks ago when he declared that older fans of the British wizard franchise should “forget the series”, as it would all be “children’s stuff”. The direct and straightforward comment divided the internet between avid fans of JK Rolling’s films and books, who violently disagreed with Miriam, and those who agreed with the genre, number and degree of everything she had said in the controversial interview.
Once again proving that she is not afraid of challenging what is popular, Miriam also revealed that she had a great role in one of Marvel’s many super productions. Margolyes received an offer to participate in a spin-off of ‘WandaVision’, focused on the plot’s antagonist, Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn).
The value? 500 thousand pounds (which is equivalent to 3.1 million reais at the current price).
The actress didn’t need much time to think: she refused the proposal straight away. The reason? For her, something simple: “I don’t like the United States and I didn’t want to spend four months in Georgia [estado norte-americano]”, she explained. Miriam says she wouldn’t play the role even if it were double. It’s worth mentioning that Marvel Studios didn’t approach the actress again after the first approach.
“They contacted me and said they wanted to do a story about witches. Then I thought, ‘Oh my God. Not witches again!'” Despite saying she feels proud to have participated in the British ‘Harry Potter’ franchise, Miriam no longer sees any reason to reprise the ‘same role’ or the same story. With such a diverse CV, why would she risk doing something she no longer feels comfortable doing?
