In June 1985, young scout Marco Aurélio Simon, then 15 years old, mysteriously disappeared during an activity with his scouting group on a trail in Pico dos Marins, in Piquete (SP). The boy was never found again, nor were there any clues as to his whereabouts. But his father, Ivo Simon, never gave up on finding him, and to this day, at the age of 85, he continues to search for his son.

This moving story is in the new PlayPlus documentary, “38 years – The saga of a father in search of his son”, which has just been made available to Record streaming subscribers.

The production reveals behind the scenes of the longest search for a missing child in Brazil, with unprecedented reports from Marco Aurélio’s family and the boy’s scouting companions, about a mystery that has lasted almost four decades. The father, determined, tirelessly searches for his son’s whereabouts: dead or alive. In September last year, after drones identified points where bones could be buried in the region where Marco Aurélio disappeared, the searches were resumed. But, once again, no traces were discovered.

The family also released photos of what the scout would look like today, aged 53, 38 years after his disappearance. The images were based on Marco Aurélio’s twin, Marco Antônio, who does not believe that his brother was the victim of a crime. Ivo Simon also hopes to find his son alive. “Who knows, maybe one day the doorbell rings, I’ll answer it, and it’s Marco Aurélio…”, he says, moved.

The entire story of the Simon family, the details about his disappearance and the search for Marco Aurélio, as well as his father’s anguish and struggle to find him, are in the documentary “38 Years – The saga of a father in search of his son” , is available to PlayPlus subscribers.
