According to THR, Scott Derrickson (‘The Black Phone’) was hired to direct the remake of ‘The Devil’s Messenger‘ (The Night of the Hunter), classic thriller from 1955.

The film will be based on the novel of the same name by Davis Grubb.

The filmmaker will also sign the script for the new version alongside his partner C. Robert Cargill (‘The entity’).

Through his Twitter, the screenwriter commented on the project: “For those who don’t know, ‘The Devil’s Messenger’ is based on a much darker book than the 1955 adaptation would have allowed. We are very excited about this project and happy to finally be able to talk about it.”

In the original plot…

“After leaving prison, a murderer of rich widows approaches a family to find the money that the father, whom he met in prison, had stored in an undisclosed location.”

The project is being developed by Universal Picturesand will also feature Peter Gethers It is Amy Pascal as producers.
