Despite prominent actors, the film did not earn even half of its cost.

Roland Emmerich made a name for himself in Hollywood with blockbusters like Independence Day, Godzilla and The Day After Tomorrow. However, the director also released films that attracted almost no one to theaters – as happened with Moonfall, available on Max.

Is Moonfall – Lunar Threat worth it?

There’s no way to make an unqualified recommendation for Emmerich’s latest orgy of destruction. On the one hand, it is clear that the production is made primarily for the cinema, for the largest possible screen and the most complete sound system throughout. In part, though, it’s probably the film’s own fault if its television impact is diminished.

The film shows the story of the NASA officer Jo Fowler (Halle Berry), from Astronaut Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson) and conspiracy theorist KC Houseman (John Bradley), sent on the most important space mission in the history of humanity – after all, the objective is to stop the fall of the Moon.

The problem with Moonfall, however, is simply that the expected fun factor is only achieved in the final act. Until then, Emmerich simply resorts to whatever debauchery comes to mind.

The film is, at times, a conspiracy thriller, and at others a space adventure. It delivers a family drama in one scene and a survival thriller in the next. Judging whether the combination works or not is up to the audience – but there’s no denying that it is, either way, a sci-fi epic.
