New film by director Alex Garland addresses the consequences of a politically polarized society

About to star in another Hollywood production, Wagner Moura spoke about his experience recording Civil warthe new film by the director Alex Garland. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Brazilian actor recalled a sequence that left him disturbed after filming ended.

In the plot of Civil war, Moura plays a journalist who witnesses the end of American democracy as we know it. The film addresses the consequences of a politically polarized society, and the star recalled during the interview that there is a scene between him and the actor Jesse Plemonswhose character points a gun at Wagner questioning him “what kind of an American he was”which provoked strong reactions in him.

“I’m an American citizen, but I speak with an accent and I’m not from here”Wagner Moura told THR. “It got me thinking: What if I’m driving somewhere in the US and I stop at a gas station and someone asks me where I’m from, or what I’m doing there? How would I react?”

Moura completed his report by saying that “It was completely destroyed” after shooting this scene with Plemons. “We filmed that part for two days, and then I just lay in the grass and cried.”he told.

Civil War premieres on April 18 in Brazilian cinemas.

Directed by Alex Garland, filmmaker best known for Ex_Machina: Artificial Instinct (2014), Civil war has been drawing praise from specialized critics for the way it explores the consequences of an America in crisis. The plot follows a team of journalists who travel across the country to record a violent scenario, driven by a civil war that is ravaging the United States.

In addition to Wagner Moura and Jesse Plemons, Civil war features Kirsten Dunst, Cailee Spaeny It is Nick Offerman in the cast. The film opens in April 18 in Brazilian cinemas.
