15 years of Fast and Furious 4: How does the franchise still exist?

-

Fast and Furious 4 (2009) turns 15 this Wednesday (3). The franchise, which has existed for more than two decades, is still going strong in 2024. In fact, filming for the next and final film in the saga should begin later this year. Vin Diesel seems to have found a basic but successful formula to keep Dominic Toretto’s story alive for so long.

With the exception of Tokyo Drift (2006), all films in the Fast and Furious franchise have grossed more than US$100 million (R$504 million) box office in the United States. All over the world, the saga yielded US$7.3 billion (R$36.8 billion) for Universal Pictures.

The franchise has changed its essence a lot since its creation in 2001. The first films will never be replicated from the cinematography to the performances of the young actors. However, Fast and Furious managed to keep fans entertained and even found a successful formula.

In the last films in the saga, the franchise stopped worrying about the narrative and started paying more attention to the action scenes. Despite the change, Vin Diesel and company were successful at the box office and managed to extend Toretto’s story until the 11th feature film.

Fast and Furious 11 is scheduled to premiere April 4, 2025. The latest film in the franchise promises to end the journey of the most famous fictional family in the world of cars. And, to that end, the saga promises to bet on fans’ nostalgia. The Rock and Gal Gadot must return to their roles for Vin Diesel’s happiness.

Despite the clichés and the lack of narrative, The Fast and the Furious still exists in 2024, as it has an audience hungry for grand, high-speed action scenes. The saga may not please the entire audience, but it still manages to make a profit at the box office.

Fast and Furious 4 is available on Globoplay, Netflix, Prime Video and Star+. Watch the full trailer below:
