The Maricá Department of Culture released this Wednesday (03/04) the schedule for the Cine Henfil public cinema between April 5th and 7th. The selection includes films specially chosen to remember the fight for democracy in Brazil. The highlight of the week is the tribute to filmmaker Wavá de Carvalho, which will take place on the 5th, Friday.

Day 05 (Friday)
6pm – Tribute to Wavá de Carvalho with speeches and presence of former students
With the screening of the film CAIS DO VALONGO, SANGRA DA TERRA – The film narrates the discovery, in the 21st century, in Rio, of the ruins of two historical buildings: Cais da Imperatriz, built to welcome Teresa Cristina – coming from Europe to get married- with Dom Pedro II – and Valongo Wharf, considered the largest slave port in the Americas in the 19th century. XVIII. The rediscoveries occurred during drainage works in the port area, as part of the Porto Maravilha project. Classification 10 years.

3pm – The Wizard of Oz – In Kansas, Dorothy lives on a farm with her aunt and uncle. When a tornado hits the area, she takes shelter indoors. 5pm – Zuzu Angel – Brazil, 60s. The military dictatorship plunges the country into one of the darkest moments in its history. Oblivious to all this, Zuzu Angel, a fashion designer, becomes increasingly famous in Brazil and abroad. At the same time, her son, Stuart, joined the armed struggle, combating the arbitrariness of the military. In short: the ideological differences between mother and son were profound. One night Zuzu receives a call, saying Stuart had been arrested by the military. The armed forces deny it. Shortly afterwards she receives a letter saying that Stuart was tortured to death in the air force. So she begins a seemingly simple battle: locate her son’s body and bury it. 7pm – Jango – 60s, Cold War. In Brazil, João Belchior Marques Goulart, better known as “Jango”, a left-wing leader and then president of the country, finds himself in a crisis with both sides of politics and suffers a military coup that would result in a dictatorship lasting three decades. Important intellectuals and personalities who participated in this phase give interviews for the documentary that portrays one of the most striking political moments in Brazil. Day 07 (Sunday)
3pm – Turma Da Mônica – Laços: Floquinho, Cebolinha’s dog, disappeared. The boy then develops an infallible plan to rescue the puppy, but to do so he will need the help of his faithful friends Mônica, Magali and Cascão. 5pm – Seventy – 1970, military dictatorship. A group of 70 political prisoners, members of the most diverse organizations, is sent to Chile as a demand for the release of Swiss ambassador Giovanni Enrico Bucher by his kidnappers. 40 years later, interviews with some of the former prisoners portray their identity, their vision of politics at that time and their projects for the future. Classification 12 years old.

7pm – Codename Clemente – Carlos Eugênio Paz recalls his participation in the armed struggle against the military dictatorship between the 1960s and 1980s. Using the codename “Clemente”, he participated in the National Liberation Alliance and several urban actions. Through her testimony, the testimonies of her fellow fighters and archival images, director Isa Albuquerque builds a portrait of a troubled moment in Brazilian history and of an entire generation that fought for democracy in her country.
