In his opinion, the film should have won the Oscar.

Quentin Tarantino never hesitates when it comes to his opinions on films. Although he likes to harshly criticize some of the most popular films of all time, he also tends to show a lot of love for some works.

As a guest of The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, Tarantino recently praised Steven Spielberg’s Love, Sublime Love. The musical remake of the classic released in 1961 failed, but the director of Pulp Fiction would have given it an Oscar.

Quentin Tarantino loves the failure Love, Sublime Love by Steven Spielberg

Tarantino participated in the podcast a few weeks ago, and talked about Spielberg’s musical remake, which, with a budget of 100 million dollars, grossed just 76 million worldwide.

However, Tarantino highly praised Love, Sublime Love:

I loved Amor, Sublime Amor. Should have won the Oscar for Best Picture and the guy who played Riff should have won the Oscar [de Melhor Ator Coadjuvante]. It’s the only film I’ve watched alone in the theater twice. It was better than I ever imagined, it was on the same level as Mad Max: Fury Road

Spielberg always wanted to make a great movie musical and realized his dream with the new edition of Amor, Sublime Amor. The film’s story takes place in 1950s New York, where two rival gangs fight for the Upper West Side. At the center of the story, Maria (Rachel Zegler), sister of the leader of the Puerto Rico Sharks, Bernardo (David Alvarez), falls in love with Tony (Ansel Elgort), member of the troubled Jets.

Love sublime love is available on Disney+.
