Sorocaba’s cinemas host six premieres today (25), including “Aumenta que é Rock’n Roll”, the feature film based on the real story of the creation of Fluminense FM radio, the first station dedicated to rock and with exclusively female voiceovers. Also on display are the dystopian action “Against the World”, the novel “Rivals”; the horror sequel “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2”; the Japanese animation “Spy X Family Code: White” and the action “The Stuntman”.

In 1982, when Brazil was breathing the air of redemocratization, Luiz Antonio, a clumsy journalist dissatisfied with traditional radio stations, decided to create his own station: Fluminense FM. “Aumenta que é Rock’n Roll” follows the group of friends who raised the station, driven by the desire to transform the world and, of course, by rock.

Through innovative strategies, such as exclusively female voiceovers, in addition to authentic and democratic programming, the first Brazilian radio dedicated to rock launches giants such as Paralamas do Sucesso, Titãs, Legião Urbana, Barão Vermelho, among others. The radio became known throughout history as “A Maldita” and gained thousands of listeners over the years.

“Rivals”

The novel “Rivals” tells the story of a love triangle involving tennis players whose rivalry and desire emerge both on and off the court. In the plot, actress Zendaya plays Tashi Duncan, a tennis prodigy who, due to a knee injury, was forced to end her career early. However, the athlete remains active when she decides to train her husband, Art (Mike Faist), who becomes a world-famous champion.

However, a surprising reunion shakes the couple’s structures. On a professional circuit, Art will have to face Patrick (Josh O’Connor), his former best friend and Thasi’s ex-boyfriend. The meeting can rekindle old flames and give the story a different direction.

Action, horror and other genres

Actor Ryan Gosling plays a Hollywood stuntman, Colt Seavers, who had to abandon his life of action after suffering an accident. After a few years, the now recovered artist is called back to the recording sets, this time to perform intense and dangerous scenes for actor Tom Ryder (Aaron Tyler-Johnson), the film’s protagonist. However, there is a great mystery: Tom is missing.

Despite the poor repercussion of the first film in the franchise, with just 3% approval from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, the balance was positive. “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey”, budgeted at less than R$100,000, was a box office success in 2023, grossing more than R$5 million and guaranteeing a sequel.

Winnie the Pooh (Ryan Oliva) and his ally Piglet (Eddy MacKenzie) return to the big screen, in their evil and bloodthirsty forms, to continue their revenge on Christopher Robin (Scott Chambers), who abandoned them in the Hundred Acre Wood. This time, the duo has the help of two other animals, Owlet (Marcus Massey) and Tigger (Lewis Santer).

In “Against the World”, after seeing his family brutally murdered by Hilda Van Der Koy (Famke Janssen), the matriarch of a post-apocalyptic dynasty, Garoto (Bill Skarsgãrd) swears revenge. The episode left the orphan deaf and voiceless, but, guided by an inner voice, he manages to escape into the jungle and meets a mysterious shaman (Yayan Ruhian). In the forest, Garoto is trained to achieve his revenge.

“Spy x Family Code: White” is based on the manga by Tatsuya Endo, and presents an unprecedented adventure of a seemingly normal family. After being replaced in Operation Strix, spy Loyd decides to help Anya, his adopted daughter, win a cooking competition. However, world peace is threatened when the little girl gets involved, by mistake, in matters she shouldn’t.

Previews

Sorocaba cinemas will also host two previews this Thursday (25th), the animation “Garfield: Fora de Casa” and the national film “Férias Trocadas”. The beloved orange cat, Garfield, returns to the big screen with another adventure, this time with his biological father, the stray cat Vic.

In “Férias Trocadas” we follow two men with completely different lives, but with a common name: José Eduardo Santos. The first, Zé, is a teacher at a football school and wins, through a raffle, a trip to Cartagena, Spain, with the whole family. The second, Edu, is a successful businessman who has a trip planned with his family to a luxury resort, also in Cartagena. However, a change of address takes the “Josés Eduardos” to opposite destinations and now they need to overcome prejudices to unite their families again.

Champions League semi-final

The disputes between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid on Tuesday (30th) and between Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on Wednesday (1st) will also be broadcast on the big screen. The Champions League final is scheduled for June 1st. The venue for the decision will be Wembley Stadium, in London.
