With 41 reviews published to date, ‘Infestation‘ (Vermin), new horror of killer spiders, achieved impressive 95% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

The general consensus highlights the solid direction, unsettling tension, and clever use of practical and visual effects – the film is being described as ‘Arachnophobia‘ of the new generation.

We have separated the excerpts from the main criticisms:

“Director Sébastien Vanicek makes excellent use of his space and shows solid instincts for creature effects – he knows when to be practical, when to show too little and when to show too much.” (MaddWolf)

“Sébastien Vanicek manages to make spiders scary enough that even people who aren’t afraid of these animals start to tremble. ‘Infestation’ is this generation’s ‘Arachnophobia,’ and its blunt political commentary helps elevate its narrative.” (THN)

“A hugely entertaining instant classic – this is a very ingenious, energetic and humorous killer animal film.” (Variety)

“The mix of real spiders and those created with CGI results in a horror story that will take your breath away, raise the hairs on the back of your neck and make you squirm in your seat.” (Movies and Munchies)

“There are no new ideas in this chilling French horror, but this first feature directed by Sébastien Vanicek unfolds with so much vitality and purpose that its shortcomings are easily forgivable.” (The New York Times)

Don’t forget to watch:

“This French production offers bone-chilling scares and a dignified presentation that elevates its typical B-movie material.” (Deep Focus Review)

“Arachnophobes beware: ‘Infestation’ is the best spider-centric horror film since ‘Arachnophobia’.” (Paste Magazine)

The horror will be released in national cinemas in July 11for the Paris Films.
