Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara return for the sequel to the classic Beetlejuice (1988).

36 years after the release of Beetlejuice (1988) in theaters, Tim Burton’s classic film will have a sequel titled Beetlejuice: Beetlejuice. Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara return from the original, but one actress was left out of the sequel: Geena Davis.

Michael Keaton only agreed to do Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2 on one condition: “You have to do it right”

In an interview with ET at CinemaCon 2024, Geena Davis revealed that she will not return to the role of Barbara Maitland in the sequel to Beetlejuice. “No, I’m not. I’m not in the remake”said the actress. “Oh, you expected me to be? Yeah, no, you know what? Because my theory is that ghosts don’t age… not that I have [envelhecido]”.

In the original, Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin played the couple Barbara and Adam Maitland, ghosts who inhabited the house of Lydia and Delia Deetz, the characters of Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara. They are the ones who summon Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) to scare and expel the residents of the residence in the film. “Our characters were stuck with the way they looked when they died forever, so it’s been a while.”adds Davis.

In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, we return to the Winter River home where three generations of the Deetz family come together after an unexpected family tragedy. Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) is already an adult and mother of teenager Astrid (Jenna Ortega), who suddenly discovers the mysterious model of the city in the attic and unintentionally opens the portal to the afterlife, once again turning life upside down. The Deetz family is turned upside down by the reemergence of the flamboyant ghost Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton).

Ghosts Still Have Fun: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice premieres on September 6th.
