‘Resgate 3’ screenwriter gives update on the sequel

In the past, it has been confirmed that Chris Hemsworth will return as Tyler Rke in a third film in the franchise’Rescue‘, managed by Sam Hargrave and produced by Anthony and Joe Russo (‘Avengers: Endgame’).

Released in 2020 and 2023, the previous two films proved to be huge hits for the Netflixand the first is among the 10 most watched films in the history of the streaming platform.

However, little has been said about the new film since confirmation… Until now.

In an interview with TotalFilm, Joe Russo gave an update on the project, confirming that the script remains in development and recording only depends on the film’s schedule. Hemsworth It is Hargrave.

“We are continuing to develop the script at the moment whilst depending on the schedule of Chris and Sam Hargrave, who will be back as director.”

He continued, commenting on Rake’s evolution.

“It’s an interesting franchise because he’s a very emotionally wounded character, so I think there’s a good narrative to explore in terms of his backstory, and, you know, his relationship with violence is built around guilt and loathing. To yourself. And so, I think that adds a lot of texture, which allows us to tell more stories about him.”

Previously, the film also received an update from Scott Stuberthe head of cinema at Netflix.

“You know, you have to find the right story. I think the second one was really good because it was emotional and complex,” reflected Stuber in an interview with Collider. “It kind of reminds me of when I worked on the Bourne movies. Tony Gilroy did a great job on the second one, making it emotional and activating that kind of thing around Franka’s death. [Potente].”

“So this one had the same kind of family history around Chris’s motivation [Hemsworth],” he continued. “Put Idris [Elba] in the franchise was an interesting way to evolve it. So we are waiting for the script and working hard, but it would be great to have the aspiration to see him come back.”

The director Sam Hargrave recently confirmed that, at this point, the story of ‘Rescue 3‘ is already under development in Netflix.

However, production on the third film will await public reception of the second film before it is greenlit.

In an interview with BroBibleHargrave shared his excitement about the project, saying: “We’re kind of waiting to see how this movie [Resgate 2] will be received. Everyone has their fingers crossed.”

He revealed that there is a story in development for the third film and added: “What exactly is it? I can’t say, but I believe there is another adventure on the horizon for Tyler Rake.”

‘Rescue 2‘ became the streaming service’s biggest release of 2023.

According to data released by streaming, the film was watched impressively 42.8 million of times around the world in the first three days of launch. This statistic translates into incredible 88 million hours of content watched.
