The action movie that’s taking Netflix by storm: It took its franchise further than ever – Film News

Released in 2021, the ninth Fast & Furious film is one of the most eccentric productions in the franchise.

The jump to digital platforms has become a lucrative maneuver for some of Hollywood studios’ biggest releases, allowing new opportunities to repeat their success. And for films that were already a success at the time, it’s a chance to stay alive.

This is the case with Fast & Furious 9, one of the best films in the monumental franchise led by Vin Diesel. The film has remained strong in the top 10 most watched on Netflix since its arrival in early April, maintaining the shine that its sequel failed to achieve last year.

Dominic Toretto is retired and raising his son Brian with his wife, Letty Ortiz. His companions Roman Pearce, Tej Parker and Ramsey arrive with the news that, shortly after arresting cyberterrorist Cipher, the plane was attacked by mysterious agents, who kidnapped Cipher and crash-landed in Montequinto, Central America.

Despite initial reluctance, Toretto agrees to collaborate with his “family” to solve this mystery. Soon after, they are approached and must escape to survive. In the process, they meet Jakob, Dom’s lost brother, who is behind everything and returns ready to make his family’s life miserable after his traumatic disappearance.

In this film, Justin Lin returns as director, the filmmaker behind the most successful and celebrated films in the Fast and Furious saga. Here he returns to inject adrenaline and excitement, shaking off the rust after an eighth film that put the franchise at an almost worryingly low level.

The film dares to go as far as possible in every aspect, from family dramas taken to their funniest absurdity to a cast full of returning old acquaintances and new faces like John Cena. But where the film really stands out is in a scene long awaited by fans: the cars going into outer space.

A crazy and mind-blowing scene done in the most hilarious way possible, showing that infinity has no limits for this “family”. With $726 million raised amid the pandemic, it was a necessary success that, unfortunately, was not matched by its sequel, which grossed less and received the worst reviews in the franchise. Maybe it’s time to analyze what this film did well.
