The Oscar-nominated Planet of the Apes saga returns to Portuguese cinemas this week

It is on May 9th that Portuguese cinemas will receive another wave of unmissable premieres, including the return of “Planet of the Apes”.

Starting this Thursday, Portuguese cinemas will welcome “The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”, by Wes Ball, which marks the return to our screens of the beloved “Planet of the Apes” saga. According to Wes Ball, “We had to really decide if we had anything good here. And I think we have. We have a reason to exist, we are not just a part four, we are our own thing. We tried to honor what came before, with the previous trilogy, but also with the original 1968 film.

In addition to the premiere of a new “Planet of the Apes”, there is also a new horror film with Melissa Barrera, an award-winning work at the Cannes Festival, a Portuguese film that promises to surprise and much more.

From “Abigail” to “Planet of the Apes”, these are the premieres arriving in Portuguese cinemas from today May 9:


Synopsis: A carefully selected group kidnaps the 12-year-old daughter of a powerful leader of the criminal underworld. All they have to do to obtain the 50 million euro ransom is watch the child, a ballerina, at night. In an isolated mansion, the kidnappers begin to disappear and discover, to their horror, that they are locked up with an unusual girl.

We Still Have Tomorrow, by Paola Cortellesi

Synopsis: In post-war Rome in the 40s, divided between the optimism of liberation and misery, lives Delia, a woman dedicated to Ivano and mother of three children. These are the roles that define her and she is content with that. While her husband Ivano acts as the authoritarian head of the family, Delia finds solace in her friend Marisa. A Couple, by Frederick Wiseman

Synopsis: A film about a long-term relationship between a man and a woman. The man is Leo Tolstoy. The woman is Sofia. They were married for 36 years and each wrote a diary. Despite living together in the same house, they wrote letters to each other frequently. Tolstoy insisted that they read their diaries aloud to dinner guests. They were also a dysfunctional couple with passionate moments of reconciliation. The film is Sofia’s monologue about the joys and difficulties of their life together, freely taken from letters they addressed to each other and diary entries.
