Greta Van Fleet closed Lollapalooza this Sunday (24) at the Autódromo de Interlagos, in São Paulo. The band played for some excited fans, the fearless street fighters who squeezed close to the railing of the Samsung Galaxy stage, the second most important stage of the event.
The majority of the audience, however, received the high-pitched vocals and distorted guitar riffs in a warm, contemplative manner. Greta is a quartet formed in the city of Frankenmuth, in the American state of Michigan, with a sound that is very reminiscent of Led Zeppelin.
This inspiration made the fan club made up of classic rock lovers grow. On the other hand, haters who find the sound too dated also persecute the band.
Greta Van Fleet was at the Brazilian Lollapalooza in 2019 and played with Metallica here in 2022. The three brothers (Josh, Jake and Sam Kiszka) plus drummer Danny Wagner punctuate the setlist with speeches about love, enjoying life and giving value at each moment. I, for one, thought a lot about this concept of carpe diem while listening to Josh howl.
This time, the most recent album, “Starcatcher” (2023), shaped the setlist, also fueled by songs from previous projects such as the EP “From the Fires” (2017) and the album “The Battle at Garden’s Gate” (2021 ).
Instead of the usual “air guitars”, the famous simulation of the guitar in the air, and even “air drums” in the audience, what we saw most were people shaking their heads slightly. Fatigue arrives for everyone after three days of the festival.
It could be that the end-of-party atmosphere is just related to Greta’s thankless place in the line-up. Or maybe people got a little tired of such an uninventive sound.
