“I remember the shows we played, places we went, backstage bubble baths and the like (laughs). But it was a long time ago. I remember it was great and exciting to be there for the first time. Oh, yes. I also remember the twelve caipirinhas and the damn heartburn I had after that, and I was pretty drunk”, said Marko, married to a Brazilian. With a young daughter, who will speak both languages, Lucas asked the Finn: “How’s your Portuguese lately?” “Put it in the ass! So that’s it… (Laughter) Can you publish that? (Laughter)”, he said.

Twenty years ago, Nightwish released their fifth album, “Once”, which earned a double platinum record in their country and was the group’s best-selling album to date. Elsewhere in the interview, Marko looked back on the record’s release with great fondness, saying: “There are a lot of great memories connected to the record. Even at the demo stage, when we were in the studio in Kitee, recording demos of ‘I Wish I Had An Angel ‘ and ‘Nemo’ and we were already thinking: ‘Okay, these are really good, if the whole album is like that it will be great.’ And it was! It was great making the album, the mixes, we were constantly (excited) like, ‘Oh! This will be good! It’ll hit the audience’ and it happened! Then we made the video for ‘Nemo’ and everything started to grow, and we were in weird shows in Germany doing playback where you meet artists you’ve never heard of and you’re there playing ‘Nemo’ on a small stage without a cable to your bass.”
