Angra’s debut album won a gold record, it is one of the most loved by fans, but it was also quite challenging for Rafael. “It was a great success, but also a great trauma. It was a trauma because I was not prepared professionally to record in a studio in Germany, in the German standard, in my early twenties. I was not yet prepared, psychologically or professionally, to face a German producer, cold, objective, who wanted to record everything quickly”, he said.

The first shock started with the drummer. Producer Charlie Bauerfeind said that, to record in the set time, it would be necessary to use another drummer, forcing the band to leave Marco Antunes aside. “That was the first big scare, because I thought that the artist’s will, in a list of priorities, was above his own agenda”, he stated, saying that he received a great lesson in professionalism, and making it clear that he believes that his former colleague I could record the album, but it would take longer.

Another challenging and learning point was recording the guitar bases. “It was a shock, because I thought I was good, if the band is good, they have a contract, I knew how to write music, I knew some Malmsteen licks, I was studying conducting and composition, harmony, I felt like a great musician, when, in fact, , then I quickly realized that no, that the hole was much deeper. ‘Anyone can play a solo’, that’s what the producer said”, he recalled. “The rhythm guitar, the guitar that accompanies, that fills the song, it needs to have consistency, tempo, dynamics, it needs to have sound, and this is more difficult than playing a solo, because most guitarists only prepare for the solo and not for the base. So I got it into my head that I was going to touch the base correctly, that became a challenge for me. Then in ‘Holy Land’, thank God, I was able to touch a lot of bases, and I was already more solid. , and in this process, which is eternal, I brought myself to this day”, he concluded.
