Taylor Swift appeared to revive her long-running feud with Kim Kardashian in a track from her new “The Tortured Poets Department” album titled “thanK you aIMee,” and everyone involved in the drama (read: the entire internet) has been waiting to see whether Kim would have a response to the pop star. But based on Kardashian’s first public appearance since her album release, Kardashian’s official stance appears to be: I don’t care. Which, honestly, is a little anticlimactic.
On Jimmy Kimmel Live on April 22, Kim Kardashian didn’t take the opportunity to address the apparent indirection. Instead, she told the late-night host, “Life is god!” (“Life is good”, in literal translation). In fairness, the host didn’t directly ask Kardashian about the fight, so perhaps she simply didn’t get a chance to address the conflict.
Once you realize that the capitalization in “thanK you aIMee” spells KIM, it’s hard to ignore the pointed meaning in the lyrics, which describe a “Bronze, spray-tanned statue of you“. Taylor Swift sings in the chorus: “All this time you were throwing punches, I was building something / And I can’t forgive the way you made me feel / I screamed ‘Fuck you, Aimee’ to the night sky as the blood gushed“. In the second verse, she sings: “And it wasn’t a fair fight / Or a clean kill every time Aimee stepped on my grave / And then she wrote headlines / In the local paper, laughing at every baby step I took“.
Those familiar with the drama will know that It all started in 2016, when Kardashian released a recording of Taylor Swift appearing to approve of the lyrics to her then-husband Kanye West’s song “Famous.”which included the line: “I feel like Taylor and I can still have sex“, on Snapchat. A full version of the call was later released, which appeared to exonerate Swift and show that Kardashian had dishonestly edited the audio. Swift says Kardashian never apologized.
This time, however, Kim Kardashian doesn’t seem interested in continuing the back and forth.
