MTV used social media to confirm the date of the next Video Music Awards ceremony, the VMA. The gala night takes place on September 10th, at the UBS Arena, in Belmont Park. The space is home to the New York Islanders hockey team.
The awards ceremony will be broadcast live on MTV in more than 150 countries and territories, at a time yet to be defined. “We are thrilled to welcome the MTV Video Music Awards back to New York State,” New York Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement.
“From its origins at Radio City Music Hall in 1984 to September’s event at UBS Arena, the VMAs continue to captivate millions by showcasing the best in music video art. As we prepare to host this 40th anniversary event, let us embrace the spirit of creativity and innovation that defines our state’s cultural landscape.”
Last year, the VMA’s highlights were the successive victories of Taylor Swift, who, incidentally, also stole the show by making the most of the night out provided by the channel. She, who won the Clip of the Year trophy and had several drinks, went viral without difficulty.
Anitta also made history by taking home another VMA and becoming the first Brazilian to have two silver astronauts on her shelf, displacing icons such as Rosalía, Karol G and Bad Bunny.
Great honoree of the night, Shakira proved to be the greatest Latina in the world. For the occasion, she performed a medley of hits, before receiving the VMA Video Vanguard award, given only to artists who have memorable videography, as well as profound contributions to the pop industry.
She revisited classics such as “Objection (Tango)”, danced with swords and threw herself into the general public when performing the track “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions #53”, in which she exposes the infidelities of her ex-husband, Gerard Piqué. Remember!
