Pedro Nuno Santos has not yet spoken to Luís Montenegro, but hopes to do so as “soon as possible” to reach consensus in various areas of governance, namely on salary increases for public administration sectors, told journalists at the end of the meeting of the PS Political Commission, in statements early this Friday.

The leader of the PS says that he “takes note with great pleasure” of the words of the prime minister-designate because this is a sign of “that there are conditions for us to have a more qualified public administration, to value the careers and salary scales of teachers, security forces, health professionals (not just doctors) and court officials”,

I hope that the government has listened to the PS and that we can quickly respond to matters on which there is consensus. If there is consensus there is no reason to wait”he told journalists, insisting on the challenge he launched to Luís Montenegro that by the summer they had reached an understanding on salary increases for some groups in the public service.

Asked about Luís Montenegro’s words, Pedro Nuno Santos said that it was a “very important statement because it means that we are able to move forward and resolve the situation of these public administration professionals by the summer”.

After almost four hours of internal debate, the socialists spoke almost in line and for the PS leader there was a “clear consensus on the direction that was defined for the country”. For now, the idea is to wait for the executive to be trained and the PS to prepare for the oppositionhe said.
