One person died following an attempted robbery on a PSP agent in the early hours of Monday, in Algés, municipality of Oeiras, a source from the Lisbon Metropolitan Command (Cometlis) told Lusa.
What the police officer, who was not in uniform as he was not on duty, said he was in his vehicle, stopped at traffic lights in Algés, when he was approached by an armed man, at around 3:30 am. “He entered his vehicle and forced the victim to enter another vehicle (driven by another suspect) and go to an ATM and then to his residence”, on Rua da Actress Maria Matos, in Benfica, describes the PSP in a statement.
Once inside the house, the police officer, who works in the Special Police Unit, “managed to reach his service weapon, having used it, neutralizing the suspect, who ended up losing his life at the scene”. The fatal victim was 40 years old.
His alleged accomplice, who was waiting at the door of the building where it all happened, in the Charquinho neighborhood, was arrested.
The case investigation was handed over to the Judiciary Police (PJ). According to a PJ source, the homicide prevention service received a call from the PSP at around 5:00 am reporting that a law enforcement agent had fatally shot a suspected robbery suspect in his residence.
