Exoneration at Santa Casa may have political motivations, says Edmundo Martinho

Heard by Antenna 1, Edmundo Martinho also admits that the lack of a strategy to solve Santa Casa’s problems may have led to the removal of the former socialist Minister of Health.

Regarding the internationalization process of the Santa Casa Games, Edmundo Martinho continues to defend the strategy. It also guarantees that the results would be visible in the medium term, to combat the institution’s drop in revenue.

The PS has already requested an urgent hearing from the Santa Casa ombudsman and also from the Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security to explain this Government decision.

The Liberal Initiative wants to hear in Parliament “as a matter of urgency” the Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security about the current “financial framework” of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa and the “need for a profound restructuring” of the institution.

Those who are concerned about these last-minute changes are the Union of Public Service Workers of the South and Islands, which hopes that this restructuring does not involve a policy of redundancies.

The Union’s notice comes one day after the Government’s decision to dismiss the administration of Santa Casa, presided over by Ana Jorge, became known.

Union leader Patrícia Rodrigues recalls that, at this point, it is already very difficult to guarantee the social mission of the institution and, therefore, the path cannot include layoffs.

Patrícia Rodrigues argues that it is necessary to determine responsibilities to ensure that Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa can reach all the requests that continue to increase.
