In the podcast titled Unconfused Me Gates spoke with Hannah Ritchie, a Scottish-born data scientist and climate change expert.

She is currently one of the most important researchers at the University of Oxford thanks to her work as deputy director of the Our World in Data project.

In this episode of his podcast, Bill Gates talks to Hannah Ritchie about his work and, especially, about the new book he has just published: Not the End of the World.

At one point, the two reflect on what they would ask a time traveler from the future.

After a few moments of reflection, the founder of Microsoft indicated that he would ask him what percentage of the world’s population could live in the year 2100 on 20 dollars a day, that is, with a salary of approximately 600 dollars a month.

Why this number?

Currently, 20 dollars a day is the minimum value considered to satisfy the basic needs of any human being and enjoy a certain level of comfort, although it is true that this largely depends on where you live. It was surprising that the once true leader of the technology industry didn’t think to ask the supposed time traveler about AI or energy, for example.

This question makes clear Bill Gates’ current concern with the way of life of a world population that is growing at a constant rate.
