A Microsoft is one of OpenAI’s major partners, with the technology giant’s first noteworthy support for the company responsible for ChatGPT being an investment of one billion dollars in 2019.
However, thanks to court documents revealed as part of the Department of Justice’s case against Google, we learn that this investment was motivated by fear on Microsoft’s part regarding Mountain View technology.
The email, exchanged between CEO Satya Nadella, CTO Kevin Scott and co-founder Bill Gates, indicates that Microsoft was “very, very worried” with the possibility that Google is far ahead when it comes to the development of Artificial Intelligence.
As the website The Verge recalls, Microsoft has to date invested more than 13 billion dollars in OpenAI – an investment that allowed the company’s AI technology to be added to Office tools, the Bing search engine and also the Edge browser.
