Government proposes subsidy based on the salary of the commander-general of the GNR

-

According to the Government’s initial proposal, to which Lusa had access, officers would receive a subsidy of 12% of the base salary of the general commander of the GNR, which is 5,216.23 euros, while the percentage for sergeants is 9 % and for guards 7%.

With this proposal, GNR officers had an increase of 625.94 euros, sergeants 469.46 euros and guards 365.13 euros. The Minister of Internal Administration is presenting, this Thursday, to the PSP unions and socio-professional associations of the GNR the proposal to grant a subsidy to members of the security forces.

The proposal is presented in separate meetings to the four socio-professional associations of the National Republican Guard and the six unions of the Public Security Police, which demand a mission supplement identical to that which the previous socialist Government attributed to the Judiciary Police.

Unions disappointed with proposal

Armando Ferreira, from the National Police Union, says he is disappointed with the Government’s proposal and guarantees that there is no more room to lower the amount requested by the union.

“Right now, this [a proposta] falls far short of what our expectations of Portuguese police officers would be. What was broadcast during the electoral campaign and which was later also supported by the President of the Republic, (…), at this moment it is being confirmed that this will not be the case. (…) For us there is not much margin”, said Armando Ferreira, stressing that “we cannot give in, it is a matter of honor”.

In the same sense, César Nogueira, from the Association of Guard Professionals, says that the value presented is much lower than expected. César Nogueira criticizes the minister and says that if the proposal continues, the protests will return.

“When he told me the price I was shocked. I was expecting them to attribute to us what they attributed to the Judiciary Police, but I expected much more than what was presented. (…) I hope that the paradigm changes and that they meet what professionals want, otherwise it will be very difficult to contain the indignation of professionals. I feel that the minister is still unprepared, I know she is not a politician but let’s hope she doesn’t get those political tricks”, said César Nogueira.
