Rui Costa and the controversy at Sporting-Benfica: “Isn’t it a goal?”

-

RThis Thursday, Costa did not hide his indignation at the controversial goal disallowed by Ángel di María, in the defeat suffered by Benfica at the Alvalade stadium, against their eternal rival, Sporting, by 1-2.

Upon leaving the green and white venue towards the bus that would transport him back to Luz, the president of the reds passed the journalists, next to the mixed area, and, faced with the insistence to comment on the move that marked the game, he simply smiled and asking: “You can say that. Isn’t it a goal?”.

The play in question, remember, took place after 74 minutes, and belonged to Ángel di María, with the referee, Fábio Veríssimo, understanding that Casper Tengstedt had been offside, blocking Franco Israel’s vision.

Sporting and Benfica meet twice more, at the beginning of April. First, in the second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals, in Luz, and then, in the 28th round of the I League, again in Alvalade.
