Another step has been taken towards the completion of the FC Porto academy project. After a meeting of councilors from the Maia City Council, the local authority approved the public auction of the 140,625 m² of land allocated for the work in the parishes of Nogueira and Silva Escura. Despite approval, the vote was voted against by the Socialist Party.
With a bidding value set at 3.36 million euros, the main justification for the socialist opposition to the approval of the PSD executive refers to the value of the site in question (23.89 euros per m²).
«Maia cannot give the idea of being on sale», defended Francisco Vieira de Carvalho, socialist councilor: «I know that there are two people who are involved in the process. One is the new candidate for FC Porto’s “deputy”, João Koehler, who will be involved in this business. If it is bought by someone who does the work and then leases it to FC Porto for a high price, we are looking at business from China here.”
António Silva Tiago, local president, quickly refuted this version: «It’s a lie that it’s almost a given. It’s well paid. The value was calculated by an independent evaluation committee. It’s bulletproof.”
«What holds this process back is FC Porto’s electoral process. For us, it doesn’t matter whether it’s president A or B, what interests us is the institution. When the public auction takes place, we don’t even know whether it will be FC Porto or a partner to acquire. You will have to comply with what is approved», also added Mário Neves, member of the PSD/CDS coalition.
The next step now involves confirming the proposal in the Municipal Assembly, a decision that will be taken next Monday. Afterwards, the bidding begins with the publication of the decision in the Official Gazette, with 20 days thereafter until its end.
It should be noted that the dragons have also gone public to deny the version of Francisco Vieira da Silva, opposition councilor for CM da Maia.

2. The land and the future FC Porto Academy will not be rented. They will be owned by FC Porto.
3. It is false that João Rafael Koehler and Pedro Pinho have any participation in the business of the future FC Porto Academy.
