A Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced, in the form of statement issued through official platforms early in the morning that the qualifying game for the 2026 World Cup, between North Korea and Japan, was postponed.
The match was scheduled for 08:00 (Mainland Portugal time) next Tuesday, at the Kim Il-Sung Stadium, in Pyongyang, but was “rescheduled due to unforeseeable circumstances”, following a request presented by the Football Federation of North Korea with FIFA.
However, according to information provided by the Kyodo news agency, the decision was hasty after the organization alleged fear of the spread of infectious diseases by the Japanese team.
North Korea and Japan do not have any type of diplomatic relationship, so the possibility of this meeting taking place on neutral ground, on a date to be confirmed, is currently on the table.
A controversy that pleases… Sporting, which, in this way, sees Hidemasa Morita return early, and thus take part in the preparation work with a view to visiting Estrela da Amadora, next Friday.
