Fábio Carvalho, currently working for Hull City on loan from Liverpool, gave an extensive interview to the newspaper A Bola this Saturday, in which he spoke about the controversy with Rui Jorge. In November 2022, the Portuguese showed himself unavailable for a call-up for the under-2s1 and has since been ‘crossed out’ by the hope coach.

Now, the young man guarantees that it was all a misunderstanding and is available to wear the under-21 team’s shirt again.

“I tried to call the mister and he didn’t answer. And then I know it was a mistake: I sent him a message and maybe it wasn’t clear what I was trying to say. I had a personal problem, and I didn’t want to clarify what That was the problem, precisely because it was something very personal. But the way I wrote the message, perhaps the manager misinterpreted it and said that I had said that I didn’t want to play for the national team anymore”, Fábio Carvalho began by saying.

“I want to represent my country. I’m Portuguese and I want to play for Portugal. Since then, I’ve also spoken to manager Roberto Martínez and we’ve clarified everything. If they call me, I’m available to play for the national team and represent my country” , he stressed.

Fábio Carvalho explained that he already spoke with Rui Jorge after this situation and that everything was clarified with the under-21 coach.

“I spoke to him a few days after this situation because I wanted to clarify everything and explain the message I sent him. He told me that he would always say the same thing: this type of conversation has to happen over a call, if it is not possible to be personally. I understood and apologized. But he said: ‘Fábio, you made a mistake’. I know I made that mistake. He also told me that he would talk to the people above him to make a decision. And that was it. “, he continued.

“I’m sorry for the way everything happened and I conveyed that to Mister Rui Jorge, apologizing. Now, I can only continue focusing on my football. And if things have to happen, they will happen. If I continue to play and evolve, I believe that I can be called up to the national team. Which is a source of pride. Representing our country is the greatest pride. When I spoke to manager Roberto Martínez, one of the things he told me was that I have to be playing and at a good level. And that’s also why I came to Hull City. To play regularly and gain confidence”, he concluded.
